School Council

At Field Road Academy, we believe that every child should have a voice. Our School Council provides pupils with a real opportunity to share their ideas, represent their peers and help shape the future of our school.

Our School Council representatives are elected democratically by their peers, giving children the chance to experience democracy in action and develop important skills such as leadership, communication, teamwork and decision-making.

🗳️ How are our School Councillors elected?

At the beginning of each academic year, pupils who would like to become a School Council representative put themselves forward as candidates. Each candidate prepares and delivers a short speech to their class, explaining why they would make a great representative and how they would use their role to make a positive difference in school.

The class then holds a democratic vote, with the candidate receiving the most votes becoming their class representative.

We are delighted to introduce our 2026–2027 School Council representatives:

🌟 What does a School Councillor do?

Being a School Councillor is an important responsibility. Our representatives meet regularly to listen to the views and ideas of their peers and bring these to School Council meetings.

They work together to:

🗣️ Give pupils a voice and make sure their ideas are heard.

💡 Share ideas and suggest improvements that could make our school even better.

🤝 Work collaboratively with other School Council representatives and staff.

📢 Keep their classmates informed about discussions, decisions and new initiatives.

🌱 Take action to help create positive changes across our school.

Our School Council members are encouraged to be confident, respectful and responsible leaders who understand that their role is not simply to represent their own ideas, but to listen carefully to the views of others.

🚀 Making a Difference

Our School Council is not just about meetings — it's about making a difference!

Recently, our School Council representatives worked collaboratively to create a child-friendly explanation of our school values: Respect, Resilience, Responsibility and Reflection.

The children discussed what each value means to them and considered what these values look and feel like in everyday school life. They then designed a poster to help pupils understand how they can demonstrate our values.

These posters are now displayed throughout our classrooms and around school, helping to remind everyone how we can demonstrate our school values every day.

🌟Our Pupils, Our Voice, Our School

We are incredibly proud of our School Council and the enthusiasm, maturity and commitment they show in their roles.

Through the School Council, our pupils are learning that their opinions matter, their ideas can create change and they have an important part to play in making Field Road Academy an even better place to learn, grow and belong.
